Baritone Jorell Williams has been praised by The Washington Post as a ‘rock-solid singer,’ by The Globe and Mail as ‘utterly convincing,’ and by The Seattle Times for his ‘stunning vocals.’ His work spans leading Mozart roles, major orchestral repertoire, contemporary opera, art song, and new music.

Recent and upcoming seasons have centered on Mozart’s defining roles, with performances of Figaro and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, alongside Belcore  (Manitoba Opera). His operatic work also includes Escamillo in Carmen (Pacific Opera Victoria) and the title role in Don Pasquale (Opera Omaha), showcasing a repertoire that spans lyric elegance, comic precision, and dramatic presence.

Equally central to Williams’s artistry is the creation of contemporary opera. He originated the role of Maduka in the world premiere of Ian Cusson and Kanika Ambrose’s Of the Sea, a Tapestry Opera and Obsidian Theatre co-production featuring the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra. Williams made his Canadian Opera Company debut as the Second Nazarene in Salome and later covered Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. In 2026, he portrayed Dr. Josiah Blackwell in the Canadian premiere of 10 Days in a Madhouse, co-presented by Tapestry Opera, the Canadian Opera Company, and Luminato Festival. The Globe and Mail praised him as “utterly convincing in the role,” with a baritone “just the right shade of menacing.”

Elsewhere, Williams has appeared with Seattle Opera and the Greek National Opera, and his contemporary work includes collaborations with Catapult Opera and the Decameron Opera Coalition, with digital projects presented on IDAGIO and preserved in the Library of Congress. His recordings include My Brother’s Keeper with the New York Festival of Song and Pentatone’s world-premiere recording of Nadia Boulanger’s La Ville Morte with Catapult Opera and the Greek National Opera. In recognition of his work as a recording artist, Williams was named to the Recording Academy’s 2026 New Member Class.

On the concert stage, he has appeared with ensembles including the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Omaha Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, and Ottawa Choral Society, performing major works such as Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, and Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast. A frequent collaborator with the New York Festival of Song and Brooklyn Art Song Society, Williams is also a composer and arranger, expanding the reach of vocal music through new and reimagined works.
